A helical pier is basically a giant steel screw with one or more circular plates welded to a central shaft. We use a hydraulic torque motor to twist it down into the ground until it hits a soil layer with enough bearing capacity to carry the weight of the structure above. No pile driving, no big hammer, very little vibration and a lot quieter than most people expect.

When Helical Piers Are the Right Choice

Helical piers work best on lighter structures and situations where we cannot use the building's own weight to install piers. That includes new construction on questionable soil, porches and additions that have settled away from the main house, decks and retaining walls, and interior installations where space is tight.

  • Porches, sunroom additions, and decks that have settled
  • New construction on fill soil or previously disturbed ground
  • Preventive installation before settlement starts
  • Interior basement work with limited access
  • Retaining walls and tiered landscape structures
  • Any structure too light to install push piers

Helical Pier Installation Process

We attach a bracket to your footing, connect the helical shaft, and run the hydraulic torque motor. The helical plates — think of them as large screws — pull the pier into the ground as the motor turns. We monitor torque continuously. When torque climbs high enough and holds, we've reached bearing capacity and stop. Then we transfer the structure load onto the pier. The whole process is quieter and less disruptive than push pier installation.
